Rampage Turn Up the Heat, defeat Milwaukee 5-3

MILWAUKEE - Though the temperature dropped about 30 degrees during the 1,200-mile trek from Houston to Milwaukee, the San Antonio Rampage looked comfortable in a heated battle between third and fourth place in the West Division.

The tiresome journey included two bus rides and an airplane flight, beginning at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, but the Rampage were full of energy in a convincing 5-3 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals.

Right wing Nate Dicasmirro scored his first goal since joining the Rampage 10:10 into the first period for a 1-0 lead. His initial shot was blocked by Milwaukee goaltender Pekka Rinne, but left wing Chris Durno corralled the rebound and swatted it off the boards behind the Admirals' cage. Dicasmirro found the puck and slid it through the pipes to put the Rampage on top.

Bill Thomas extended the lead to 2-0 when he snuck a power-play score by the pads of Rinne at 8:30 of the second period. It was the 11th goal of the season for Thomas.

The Rampage took a commanding 3-0 lead on a fantastic goal from right wing Jon DiSalvatore, whom registered his fourth multi-point game this season.

Center Joey Tenute dumped a one-handed glove pass into the Milwaukee zone as he hit the ice to left wing Matt Murley, who then popped the puck in front of the crease. DiSalvatore, flanked to the right, slapped the still airborne puck into the net at 17:25 of the second frame to give the Rampage a stranglehold on the game. The series of events was sparked by defenseman Bryan Helmer's blocked shot in front of the Rampage goal, leading to the breakaway opportunity.

Milwaukee ended David LeNeveu's whitewash bid with a goal from right wing Andreas Thuresson 3:08 into the third period. Forward David Spina gave the Rampage another comfortable three-goal lead less than four minutes later with an unassisted marker, his sixth of the year.

Murley added another power-play tally at 10:13 of the third for a 5-1 San Antonio advantage.

Milwaukee scored two goals in the last 90 seconds to make things respectable. Defenseman Janne Niskala scored late in the period and defenseman Alexander Sulzer scored with four seconds left for the 5-3 final.

LeNeveu made 27 saves for his fourth win in five tries, and sixth overall this season.

San Antonio improved to 13-1-2-2 when scoring first and 8-6-0-2 on the road. The Rampage remain in third place in the West at 18-11-2-3 overall and return home to face Houston 7 p.m. Saturday night at the AT&T Center.
