Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - Nathan Smith and Kurtis McLean picked up right Thursday right where they left on on Wednesday, each picking up goals as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins downed the Syracuse Crunch, 3-1, at the War Memorial at Oncenter.
The win - the team's sixth in a row - came 24 hours after the Pens posted a 4-0 shutout against the Crunch on Wednesday night in Wilkes-Barre, and upped the Penguins' record to 18-12-0-1 on the season. Syracuse, meanwhile, dropped their fourth game against the Penguins this year and fell to 15-18-1-1 on the season.
Alexander Picard's first period power play goal was the only puck to find its way behind David Brown, who stopped a season-high 38 shots to record his third win.
McLean extended his goal streak to three games with his tally at 17:01 of the first period, and Smith picked up his third goal in the past two games six minutes into the second frame. That goal stretched Smith's scoring streak to six games (4+4=8).
Tim Brent closed out the scoring with his fifth of the season 63 seconds into the third period.
In addition to Smith, Tim Brent also extended his point scoring streak to six games with an assist on McLean's goal. Brent now has 10 points (1+9=10) in that span.
The Penguins return home to host the Binghamton Senators on Saturday night at 7:05, before closing out the calendar year with a 6:05pm contest against the Norfolk Admirals on New Year's Eve.
NOTES: McLean has five goals in his past five games, including three game-winning goals...The Penguins' six-game winning streak is the longest for the team since it won seven in a row from October 13-28, 2006.
