San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Bobby Butler tallied two goals and an assist and Garrett Wilson and Byron Froese each notched a goal as the Rampage beat the Oklahoma City Barons 4-3 in front of 2,164 on Saturday afternoon at the AT&T Center.
Froese's goal was the Rampage's first of the day, and he added an assist to earn the Second Star of the Game. Butler's two goals, which earned him the First Star of the Game, came midway through the second period and gave the Rampage a 3-1 lead with 8:44 remaining in the frame.
Garrett Wilson notched a goal and an assist and defenseman Greg Zanon finished with two assists. Goalie Dan Ellis finished with 24 saves on 27 shots. San Antonio finished 0-for-4 on the power play while holding Oklahoma City to just one goal on five opportunities with the extra man.
QUOTABLE "Bobby came back in great shape. He worked hard in the summertime, he has an extra step in his game. He's done everything we've asked him to. Hopefully he gets a chance to get called up to Florida, but he's focused on here. What I like about him is his leadership on the bench, in the locker room. He usually comes through with a big play or a clutch goal." -- Head Coach Tom Rowe
NOTABLE STAT Six different players recorded a point on Saturday with four recording multi-point games, showcasing the team-first philosophy that has been emphasized through the early part of this Rampage season.
TURNING POINT Butler's goals came at 6:03 and 8:44 of the second period, extending San Antonio's lead to two goals.
MVP Butler, Wilson and Froese, working on a line together for the preseason opener, accounted for all four of San Antonio's goals. The three had worked together in practices leading up to Saturday's game. They combined for 13 shots in the win.
