Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Rookies ruled the night at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, as four first-year prospects scored goals in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins' 4-2 win over the Hershey Bears.
The win was the second in as many games for the Penguins in the exhibition season, while the Bears saw their preseason record fall to 2-1-0-0.
Hershey jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a first period goal by Nathan Walker, and held that lead until Josh Archibald batted home a centering feed from Jayson Megna while shorthanded 1:49 into the second period.
Things got testy between the teams, with Pens bruisers Patrick McGrath and Harrison Ruopp both taking decisions in their bare-knuckle battles.
Jean-Sebastien Dea put the Pens in front 12 minutes later, banging home a rebound off of an Anton Zlobin shot to make it a 2-1 game.
Scott Wilson netted his second goal in as many games, this one a power play tally at 6:43 of the third, to extend the lead. And Bryan Rust found the back of the net two minutes later to make it a 4-1 advantage.
Caleb Herbert drew the Bears back to within two goals at 11:31, but that was as close as the visitors would get.
Rookie netminder Matt Murray stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced to post the win between the pipes.
The Penguins complete their exhibition schedule tomorrow afternoon with a trip to the Giant Center for a 5:00pm tilt with the Bears.
The Penguins start their 2014-15 regular season on home ice on Saturday, October 11 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Good seats for that game, as well as all Penguins home games, are available by visiting the Mohegan Sun Arena box office, by calling 800-745-3000, or online.
Penguins season tickets, including full season, 22-game, 12-game and 10-ticket flex vouchers, are available directly through the Penguins ticket offices at 570-208-7367.
