SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 2, 2006) - The San Antonio Rampage today announced they have signed defenseman Jason Beatty to a professional tryout offer (PTO). In addition, the Rampage's parent club, the Phoenix Coyotes, have recalled defenseman Matthew Spiller from the American Hockey League team yesterday.

Beatty, who will turn 23 on Feb. 20, has seven points (1g, 6a) in 38 games with the Lubbock Cotton Kings. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman ranks 15th (tied) in the Central Hockey League (CHL) with 88 penalty minutes (PIM).

The Sturgis, Saskatchewan native is in his second professional season with Lubbock and will be available to play in Friday's game at Rochester.

Spiller has had one stint with the Coyotes this season from Jan. 11 to 17, playing in two games with the Coyotes during that span. The 22-year-old blueliner has registered eight points (2g, 6a) and 98 PIM in 42 games with San Antonio this season. Spiller ranks 2nd on the Rampage in PIM and 5th in shots on goal with 72.

The 6-foot-5, 233-pound Spiller played in 51 games with the Coyotes during his first professional season in 2003-04. The Coyotes selected Spiller with their 2nd choice (2nd round, 31st overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rampage embark on a 10-game, 21-day road trip that begins Friday in Rochester, N.Y., and comprises 5,971 miles as the annual San Antonio Livestock Exposition and Rodeo visits the AT&T Center.
