
Flames Recall Regehr, Re-Assign Giordano

Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights announced today that the Calgary Flames, their NHL affiliate, have recalled defenseman Richie Regehr from Omaha. This is his third recall to the NHL. Regehr, who recently represented the Knights in the 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic, will join the Flames in time for their game against the Vancouver Canucks on Friday. In addition, the Flames also re-assigned defenseman Mark Giordano to Omaha.
Regehr had a goal and an assist last night for the Canadian AHL All-Star team which beat the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars 9-4 in the AHL All-Star game played in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 36 games with the Knights this season, he has three goals and 17 assists for 20 points and 40 penalty minutes. In ten games with Calgary this season, Regehr has two assists and four penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut on December 29th against Minnesota, posting his first NHL point/assist on the game-winning goal.
In 100 AHL career games, Regehr has accumulated 45 points (12 goals, 33 assists) and 100 penalty minutes with Omaha and Lowell. The 6'0", 195 lbs. blueliner made his professional debut during the 2004-05 campaign after playing in 307 games in the Western Hockey League with Kelowna and Portland posting 199 points (49 goals, 150 assists) and 355 penalty minutes. The Flames signed Regehr as a free agent on July 6, 2004.
Giordano made his NHL debut on Monday in the Flames 3-2 shootout loss at St. Louis. He also saw action in the Flames' 2-1 shootout loss to Columbus last night. Giordano has played in all 49 games with the Knights this season, earning 35 points (9 goals, 26 assists) and 94 penalty minutes. The 6'0", 203 lbs. rearguard is one of only two Knights to appear in every game. Giordano is currently second on the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights in points, first in assists, third in penalty minutes and third in power play goals (7). The native of Toronto, Ontario made his professional debut during the 2004-05 campaign after playing 133 games in the Ontario Hockey League with Owen Sound posting 97 points (32 goals, 65 assists) and 181 penalty minutes. The Flames signed Giordano as a free agent on July 6, 2004.
An autographed Giordano stick will be up for silent auction at the Knights' game on Saturday against the Chicago Wolves. Fans can place bids by visiting the Knights' merchandise kiosk. Bidding will end at the beginning of the third period.
The Knights return to action on Friday and Saturday, February 3rd and 4th when they host Chicago. Both games start at 7:00 p.m. Friday's game is also Nebraska Lottery T-Shirt Night. The first 1,500 fans receive a Knights' t-shirt courtesy of Nebraska Lottery. On Saturday, the Knights are hosting Fremont Friends and Family Night. Following the game, fans are invited to join the Knights on the ice for a skate with the team. Children must have helmets for this event.
Tickets for all home games are available at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The box office is open through the opening face-off on game nights.
