
Rampage Release Kinnunen From PTO

SAN ANTONIO (March 4, 2010) - San Antonio Rampage General Manager Brad Treliving today announced that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has released defensemen Justin Kinnunen from his professional try-out (PTO) contract.
Kinnunen, 28, rejoins the Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) where he has played 40 games in 2009-10, posting 19 points (5g, 14a) and a plus-12 rating with the Brahmas. He signed a PTO on Feb. 19 and appeared in six games with the Rampage collecting one assist and a plus-2 rating. Kinnunen made his AHL debut with San Antonio in January of 2009 and registered one assist and 10 penalty minutes in 11 games with the Rampage.
In 2008-09, the Negaunee, Michigan native recorded 33 points (12g, 21a) in 47 games with Texas and was named a starter for the 2009 CHL All-Star game. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defenseman has amassed 95 points (28g, 67a) and 185 penalty minutes in three seasons with the Brahmas. Kinnunen split the 2006-07 season with Muskegon and Flint in the United Hockey League (UHL), now the IHL, where he totaled 21 points (5g, 16a) between the two teams.
Kinnunen appeared in 13 games in France with Briancon totaling seven points in the 2005-06 season and in 2004-05 he tallied nine goals and 20 assists with the Dayton Bombers (ECHL).
While attending Northern Michigan University (2000-04), Kinnunen netted 14 goals and 24 assists through 148 career NCAA games. At the end of his senior year he joined the Bombers for five games collecting two goals and three assists.
The Rampage travel to Houston tomorrow to take on the Aeros at 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Center. The State Farm Lone Star Faceoff matchup will be televised on FOX Sports Southwest.
