
P-Bruins Defeat Heat In Shootout 3-2

Abbotsford, BC - The Providence Bruins defeated the Abbotsford Heat 3-2 Wednesday evening in a shootout at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. The P-Bruins got their two goals in regulations from Jordan Knackstedt and in the shootout from Zach Hamill and Yannick Riendeau. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Sport Bottle Night against the Manchester Monarchs.
The Heat took a 1-0 advantage at the 2:17 mark of the opening period. David VanderGulik netted his 11th goal of the season, while Jason Jaffray and Ben Gordon recorded the assists. Abbotsford led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
The P-Bruins tied the game at one at the 13:13 mark of the second period. Jamie Arniel had the puck in the neutral zone and sent it up ahead to Knackstedt. He skated into the top of the slot and shot the puck into the net for his eighth goal of the season. Providence took its first lead of the game at the 18:00 mark. Arniel skated the puck down the left wing and sent the puck back door to Knackstedt, who tipped it into the net for his second goal of the game and ninth goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
Abbotsford tied the game at two just nine seconds into the third period. Cam Cunning tallied his 14th goal of the season, while Garth Murray and Radek Smolenak had the assists. The game went into overtime tied at two.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout. Hamill scored for the P-Bruins in the second round to give Providence a 1-0 advantage. Abbotsford tied the shootout at one in the fifth round on a goal from Murray. The P-Bruins scored again in the sixth round, this time from Riendeau. After Jaffray missed, Providence went onto the 3-2 shootout victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 26 of 28 shots in regulation and 5 of 6 shots in the shootout for the P-Bruins, while David Shantz made 31 saves in regulation and 4 saves in the shootout for the Heat. The P-Bruins were 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Sport Bottle Night against the Monarchs. Providence then heads back on the road Saturday to face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m. at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The P-Bruins wrap up the week at home at The Dunk Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Amica Lip Balm Night against the Lowell Devils.
