Rampage Fall at Rockford, 4-2

ROCKFORD, IL - Despite a two-goal outing from rookie Vincent Trocheck, the San Antonio Rampage (7-8-0-1) fell in their second and final meeting with the Rockford IceHogs (9-8-1-0) tonight at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Trocheck's two goals, his seventh and eighth on the year, gave the rookie his third multi-goal and fifth multi-point game through 16 contests this season. His performance earned him the Second Star of the Game honors.

Drew Shore extended his assist streak to four games, while Alex Petrovic netted his third assist in as many games. Rampage goalie Dov Grumet-Morris made 30 saves on 33 shots and Rampage captain Greg Rallo had a season-high and team-high eight shots in the defeat.

Bolstered by the return of forwards Alex Broadhurst and Jeremy Morin, Rockford struck twice in the first period. Terry Broadhurst opened the scoring at 7:49 of the opening frame, stealing the puck in the neutral zone and dangling his way around a Rampage defender to beat Grumet-Morris shorthanded, giving the IceHogs a 1-0 lead.

The tally stands as the only shorthanded goal the Rampage have allowed through 16 games this season.

Rockford forward Jeremy Morin cashed in with the extra man on an Adam Clendening shot from the right circle, tipping it past Grumet-Morris to widen the IceHogs' lead to 2-0 at 15:18 of the first period.

The Rampage, who had scored only eight goals in the first period this season, retaliated just over three minutes later. Shore caught a pass from Jonathan Racine and fired it on net. Trocheck was there waiting and netted his seventh of the year on the tip-in past Antti Raanta at 18:23 of the first frame.

Just 42 seconds into the second period, Trocheck snuck one past Raanta for his second of the night, tying the game at 2-2. Bobby Butler collected his second assist in two nights on the play.

Grumet-Morris came up big for the Rampage minutes later, robbing Phillip Danault as the IceHogs center fired a shot point-blank from the slot.

The IceHogs would get another chance on the man advantage, but they were unable to convert and Trocheck's tally stood through the period as the only goal on the scoresheet. The Rampage were also given a 5-on-3 chance followed by an abbreviated power play, but could not find the back of the net with the extra man.

Rockford defenseman Bobby Shea broke the stalemate 6:19 into the final period off a long shot that found its way through traffic to put the IceHogs up 3-2.

With just under two left in regulation, Grumet-Morris skated to the bench to give the Rampage the extra skater. Despite a final offensive push, Rockford defenseman Klas Dahlbeck tossed the puck over the blueline with 37 seconds left to secure the win for the IceHogs, 4-2.

The Rampage went 0-for-3 on the power play and gave up one goal to the Rockford power play as the IceHogs went 1-for-2. San Antonio outshot Rockford 37-34 on the night.

The Rampage return to the AT&T Center on Tuesday, Nov. 19, hosting the Oklahoma City Barons at 10:30 a.m. for the team's fourth-annual Cool School Day game.
