Albany Devils News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - Albany Devils netminder Keith Kinkaid made 29 saves and stopped all five of the Syracuse Crunches shootout attempts in a 2-1 victory Saturday at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Albany, which improves to 9-6-0-1, earned its fourth win in five outings and its third straight.
Rookie Reece Scarlett opened the scoring with his first career goal. Joe Whitney and Reid Boucher setup the power play goal, which was a result of a point shot at 17:55 of the second period.
Syracuse's Nikita Kucherov responded 24 seconds later, beating Kinkaid with a wrister at 18:19.
The action before and after the teams exchanged goals belonged to the goaltenders. Kinkaid made 12 saves in the first, 14 in the second, five in the third and two in overtime. In the shootout, he made the five consecutive saves, making Boucher's second-round tally the winner.
The win was Kinkaid's fifth consecutive, tying a career best which he accomplished twice last season between Dec. 1-14 and Dec. 27 - Jan.12. For the year, he is 6-1-1 with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage.
At the other end, Cedrick Desjardins made 32 saves as the Devils outshot the Crunch, 34-30.
Albany returns to Times Union Center Wednesday with a 7 pm game against the Hartford Wolf Pack.
