
Anaheim Acquires Jesse Blacker and Two 2014 Draft Picks from Toronto

ANAHEIM, CA - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman Jesse Blacker and third-round and seventh-round selections in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft from Toronto in exchange for center Peter Holland and right wing Brad Staubitz. The third-round pick becomes a second-round selection should certain conditions be met. The 2014 seventh-round pick returns to Anaheim after originally being sent to Toronto with right wing Ryan Lasch in exchange for center David Steckel. In addition, Anaheim has assigned Blacker to the Norfolk Admirals.
Blacker, 22, has logged an assist, four penalty minutes, and a +1 rating in five games played with the Toronto Marlies (AHL) this season. The 6-2, 190-pound blueliner has totaled 29 points (6g, 23a) with a +5 rating and 110 penalty minutes in 130 career American Hockey League games with the Marlies.
The Toronto, Ontario native was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round (58th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Blacker played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Windsor (2007-09) and Owen Sound (2009-11). In 203 career OHL games, he collected 20-112 points (20g, 92a) with a +44 rating and 217 PIM. Blacker helped Windsor to a Memorial Cup win in 2009 registering four points in 20 playoff games and Owen Sound to the 2011 OHL Championship and a Memorial Cup appearance with 16 points (5g, 11a) in 22 games.
Holland, 22, has scored a goal and a -1 rating in four appearances with the Ducks this season. In addition, the 6-2, 185-pound forward has also posted nine points (5g, 4a) and a +4 rating in ten games played with Norfolk. Holland has appeared in 29 career NHL games with the Ducks, registering seven points (2g, 5a) with a +3 rating and eight PIM. The Caledon, Ontario native is a first round (15th overall) draft selection of Anaheim in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Staubitz, 29, went scoreless with 10 PIM in six games for Norfolk this season. He appeared in 15 games for the Ducks last season, scoring two points (1g, 1a) with 41 PIM. Staubitz signed as a free agent with Anaheim on July 1, 2012. The Bright's Grove, Ontario native has collected 21 points (10g, 11a) with 521 PIM in 230 career NHL games split between stints with San Jose (2008-10), Minnesota (2010-12), Montreal (2011-12) and Anaheim (2012-13).
