San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (28-33-3-6) got two goals from Tyler Barnes and a goal and an assist each from Jed Ortmeyer and Drew Shore en route to a dominating 5-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers (36-31-1-2) on Friday night in front of a crowd of 8,000 inside the AT&T Center.
Jed Ortmeyer tallied his 200th professional point and six different Rampage players recorded multi-point games. With two assists on the night, Shore extended his assist streak to three games.
San Antonio struck first as Ortmeyer sent a nice backhand pass from the left circle to Ryan Whitney in the slot and Whitney punched it past John Muse, giving the Rampage a 1-0 lead at 9:44.
The Silver and Black extended their lead to two on the power play as Garrett Wilson handled the puck behind the net and fed it to Tyler Barnes in front, making it 2-0 and giving Barnes his first goal in his first professional game since signing an ATO with San Antonio on April 1.
San Antonio continued the scoring flurry in the second period as Shore took a pass from Greg Rallo behind the net and skated around the crease before wristing it past Muse to make it 3-0 at 7:30.
On an odd-man rush midway through the frame, Shore sent a pass to Ortmeyer, who fired it past Muse to give San Antonio a 4-0 lead. It was Ortmeyer's first goal and third point of the night.
Charlotte got on the board as time expired in the second. With 3.2 seconds left on the clock, Nicolas Blanchard picked the puck up off the boards and scored on a wraparound to make it 4-1 heading into the second intermission.
The Checkers cut the deficit to two goals with a Zach Boychuk power play tally at 8:10 of the third period. Chris Terry sent the puck to Boychuk in the left circle and Boychuk put it away for his 33rd of the season.
San Antonio extended the lead to three once again as Barnes notched his second goal of the night, making a slick move around a Charlotte defenseman before firing the puck past Muse at 11:04.
The Rampage owned the shot battle, outshooting the Checkers 34-19. San Antonio finished 1-for-5 on the power play while Charlotte tallied one goal on four opportunities with the man advantage.
The Rampage wrap up the four-game season series against the Lake Erie Monsters on Saturday night at 7 p.m. It will be Kids' Night at the AT&T Center, and the Rampage will celebrate the end of Face Off Against Kids Cancer for the 2013-14 season. Individual and season tickets can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
