April 4, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
The Chicago Wolves announced Friday that they have signed defenseman JAKE CHELIOS to a professional tryout contract (PTO).
CHELIOS, the younger son of United States Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Chelios, joins the Wolves after launching his professional career on March 22 with the Toledo Walleye (ECHL). The 23-year-old contributed one goal and one assist in seven games with Toledo.
Prior to turning pro, the Bloomfield Hills, Mich., native played for four years at Michigan State University and posted 17 goals, 37 assists and 195 penalty minutes in 154 games. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound CHELIOS spent the 2009-10 season with the Chicago Steel (USHL) and provided 12 goals and 22 assists in 52 games.
When CHELIOS appears in his first game for the Wolves, he'll become part of the first father-and-son tandem to play for the franchise in its 20-year history. Chris Chelios capped his 27-season professional career with the Wolves in 2009-10, when he notched five goals and 17 assists in 46 regular-season games and also appeared in 14 Calder Cup playoff games for Chicago.
The Wolves play a pair of games at Allstate Arena this weekend as they host Milwaukee at 7 p.m. Saturday and Iowa at 3 p.m. Sunday. To save money on regular-season or playoff tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
