April 14, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (April 14, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage (45-22-6-1) scored two goals in the third period to come within one, but ultimately fell to the Texas Stars (38-22-13-1) 3-2 in front of 8,205 at the AT&T Center on Tuesday night. With Utica idle, the Rampage remain in second place in the Western Conference, just a point behind the Comets.
The Stars jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Travis Morin just 1:32 into the contest. Sam Brittain, making his fifth AHL start, made 17 saves in the opening frame to keep the deficit at one entering the first intermission.
The Stars opened the second period with another quick goal, as Brendan Ranford wristed a shot over the shoulder of Brittain to make it 2-0 at the 1:40 mark. Kevin Henderson extended the Texas lead to three with a tally near the midway point of the stanza, and the Rampage would enter the locker room trailing 3-0 at the second intermission.
San Antonio got on the board early in the final frame, as Corban Knight converted on a pass from John McFarland, sniping a shot past Jussi Rynnas to make it 3-1 at 6:05. The Rampage got another goal when Dany Heatly sent a cross-ice pass for Garrett Wilson in transition, who scored the power-play goal to bring the Silver and Black within one.
The Rampage outshot the stars 13-7 in the third period, but were unable to find the equalizing goal. Brittain finished with 33 saves on 36 shots, and San Antonio was 1-for-6 on the power play while holding the Stars scoreless on six opportunities with the man advantage.
KEY STAT
Knight, who notched his 15th goal of the season, now has 14 points in his last 17 games and six over the Rampage's last seven contests.
LINEUP NOTES
John McFarland moved to the top line alongside Knight and Heatley. Tony Turgeon drew into the lineup and played with Wade Megan and Logan Shaw on the fourth line.
