Hershey Bears News Release
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Rob Zepp turned aside 39 shots and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms scored four unanswered goals to skate past the Hershey Bears by a 4-1 count on Tuesday night at PPL Center.
Hershey came out with an aggressive forecheck and as a result grabbed the lead 4:14 into the game. Jakub Vrana would turn the puck out of the left-wing corner following a Phantoms turnover, and find Jim O'Brien alone in the slot. O'Brien used Phantoms defenseman Robert Hagg as a screen and whipped a snap shot over the arm of goaltender Rob Zepp for his 10th goal of the season, a play which earned Vrana his first AHL point.
It would take just 51 seconds of play in the second period for the Phantoms to get the equalizer. Mark Alt would pinch down into the right circle and set up Scott Laughton for a snap shot from the slot that eluded Philipp Grubauer.
Petr Straka scored the go-ahead goal in the middle frame, cruising into the slot and one-timing a feed from Kevin Goumas into the net at 6:41.
Jason Akeson gave the Phantoms a 3-1 lead, collecting a turnover in the Hershey zone and rifling a slapper into the upper-right corner at 12:44 of the third.
Rookie Danick Martel capped off the scoring by hitting the empty net while falling at 19:05.
Zepp improved to 21-18-4 with the win, while Grubauer made 25 saves and fell to 27-17-5.
The Bears' record stands at 44-22-5-3 (96 points) and the club still needs four points to clinch the East Division title.
Hershey returns home on Friday, April 17 to host the Binghamton Senators at 7:00 PM. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Bears logo golf ball courtesy of Fairview Golf Course. It's also another Dietz & Watson Dollar Dog Night, and all fans may purchase hot dogs for $1 at select concession stands.
