Nashville, Tenn. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (42-29) scored four runs in the eighth inning to break open an a tie and went on to defeat the Nashville Sounds (28-44) 10-6 before 3,025 at Greer Stadium Tuesday night.
Tied 5-5 in the eighth, the RedHawks loaded the bases against Amaury Rivas (3-4) with none out. Nashville pitcher Rob Wooten relieved Rivas and walked both Carlos Corporan and Jake Goebbert to score a pair of runs and make it 7-5.
Two batters later, Jimmy Paredes sent a sharp ground ball to first base. Wooten mishandled Jordan Brown's throw at the bag, allowing two more runs to score.
The RedHawks had a couple of leads up to that point slip away. Two batters into the game, Paredes crushed a two-run homer beyond the clubhouses in right-center field to give the RedHawks the early lead.
The Sounds shot back with a pair of runs in their first at-bat. Still tied 2-2 in the third, Mike Hessman hit a three-run homer for his 20th dinger of the season.
Nashville chipped away at the lead, scoring runs in the third, fourth, and sixth to even the score.
Angel Sanchez plated the RedHawks' final run of the night in the ninth on an RBI double. Nashville's Sean Halton hit a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the inning to complete the scoring.
The RedHawks had to rely on their bullpen after starting pitcher Wes Musick left two pitches into the second inning with an injury. Sergio Perez tossed the next four innings, and Mickey Storey (5-2) picked up the win after firing a scoreless seventh inning.
The RedHawks have now won 10 straight games against the Sounds and have taken 12 of the 13 contests between the two squads in 2012.
They'll look to make it 11 straight when they play Wednesday night in Nashville at 7:05 p.m. Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 The Game, 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio app.
