Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The comeback kids fell just short in their bid for a sixth consecutive victory, falling 10-8 to New Orleans on Friday night in front of 10,504 fans at Isotopes Park.

The Isotopes took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before New Orleans scored the next nine runs to take a 9-3 lead after five and a half innings. Albuquerque, as they have done the last five nights, fought back for three runs in the fifth on an Abraham Nunez three-run homer to cut the lead to 9-6. New Orleans added a run in the eighth on a Mike Moriarty home run before the Isotopes had their last chance in the ninth. Jason Wood hit his 13th homer , a two-run shot with no outs to cut the lead to 10-8. Two outs later and with a runner on, Kevin Hooper hit one out of the ballpark but foul before grounding out to end the game.

Scott Sanders (6-4) took the loss, allowing six runs in two plus innings before leaving in the third with tightness in his right hamstring. Chad Allen added four hits for the ‘Topes in the loss.

The Isotopes (63-57) lost for the first time at home since July 22, but still lead the Central by 2.5 games. Albuquerque and New Orleans will square off in game three of four tomorrow night, beginning at 7:11 PM. Sean Bergman will make the start.
