Round Rock Express News Release

A day after nearly giving up a four run lead, the Midland RockHounds made sure that there would be no such comeback by the Round Rock Express Friday night.

Midland scored seven times in teh first two innings and then put the game completely out of reach with five runs in the eighth to defeat Round Rock, 12-4, in front of 3,744 at First America Bank Ballpark.

The RockHounds started their scoring from the beginning against starter Greg Powell. Powell came into Friday's game fresh off a shutout of San Antonio, but gave up seven hits and three walks in two innings to drop his record to 6-8.

The Express kept the game interesting by scoring four times off Midland starter Mike Ziegler. Gavin Wright played a key role with a pair of hits while scoring twice.

However, a second RockHound outburst in the eighth ended any hope for a comeback.

The 12 runs also overshadowed a solid relief outing from Eric Ireland, who threw four scoreless innings and struck out a season high seven.

Ziegler (9-8) got the win.

The final game of the six-game series will be Saturday at 7 p.m.
