Johnson homer proves to be difference against Express
August 9, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
One pitch is all that separated the Round Rock Express from the Midland RockHounds Saturday night. Unfortunately, that one pitch ended up beyond the outfield wall.
Dan Johnson's three-run home run in the third capped a four run inning and pushed Midland to a 6-4 win over Round Rock in front of 4,980 at First American Bank Ballpark.
A Tommy Whiteman double and a Jacques Landry ground out gave the Express a 2-0 lead in the first. However, that was whiped out two innings later when Midland exploded for its big inning and a 4-2 lead, lead by Johnson's blast.
Anthony Acevedo drove in a run in the fifth to cut the lead to one. However, Midland responded in the bottom of the eighth with two runs to give the RockHounds the eventual winning runs.
Offensively, Michael Rosamond continued to rip Texas League pitching with a 3 for 4 night. Whiteman and Landry also had two hit nights.
Darvin Withers (6-3) was the winner after giving up three runs in six innings. Ruddy Lugo (4-11) was charged with the loss.
Round Rock will have Sunday off before returning to The Dell Diamond for an eight-game homestand starting Monday at 7:05 p.m. against Tulsa.
