Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - Raleigh native Chris Archer pitched six innings allowing just one earned run in a 3-2 victory over the Charlotte Knights on Saturday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Bulls.

The Bulls offense got on the board first with an RBI single from Russ Canzler that scored Guyer in the bottom of the first inning. The Knights answered back with a run of their own in the top of the second when Archer walked Jared Price to score John Danks. The Bulls retook the lead in the third inning when Carson hit a one-out double and later scored on a Brandon Guyer single to make it 2-1. The Bulls added another run in the fifth inning when Carson doubled to drive home Tim Beckham making it 3-1.

Archer (1-0) lasted six innings allowing just three hits and one earned run walking five and striking out six in his Triple-A debut. Dane De La Rosa went the next two innings allowing two hits, one of which was a solo home run from Dallas McPherson to cut the Bulls lead to 3-2. The home run was the third for McPherson in his last two games. Rob Delany worked around a leadoff double by Gookie Dawkins to earn his tenth save of the season.

Doug Davis (2-5) was the hard-luck loser going seven innings allowing nine hits and three runs walking one and striking out eight.

Durham will finish their five-game series against Charlotte on Sunday August 28 with a double-header beginning at 4:05 p.m. The Bulls will send Matt Moore (3-0) to the mound against the Knights' Justin Cassel (0-0) in game one and Matt Torra (3-1) to the mound against the Knights' Jhonny Nunez in game two. The game can be heard on 620 the Buzz, and tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com.
