INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Indians outfielder Rajai Davis (pronounced "RAHJ-ay") has been recalled by Pittsburgh, while the Pirates have designated catcher Humberto Cota for assignment. The roster moves were announced by the Tribe's parent club Monday night and will be made official Tuesday morning.

Davis hit .318 with four home runs and 30 RBI in 53 Triple-A contests this season. He ranked fourth in all of professional baseball with an International League-leading 27 stolen bases.

The 26-year-old was also riding a career-best 21-game hitting streak (.363 BA, 32-for-88, 15 R, 13 RBI). The streak ranked as the longest of his seven-year professional career and the second-longest in the IL this season.

Davis placed among the league leaders in several offensive categories at the time of his promotion. He was tied for second in hits (67), fourth in triples (4) and 10th in batting average.

Davis played in 20 games for the Pirates a season ago after earning his first Major League promotion. He went 2-for-14 with one run and one stolen base.

Cota went 5-for-14 with one run and three RBI in five Major League games this season. He was placed on the disabled list April 26 with a left shoulder strain.

The 28-year-old went 10-for-33 with eight runs and five RBI in 11 tilts for Indianapolis during a rehabilitation assignment from May 9-20.
