July 11, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers saved the best for last in a 6-4 walk-off win over Fresno at Cheney Stadium on Sunday.
Outfielder David Winfree belted a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning to break up a 4-4 tie and clinch the Rainiers fifth series win in their last six opportunities.
The late-inning heroics were made possible thanks to a rally in the eighth inning. Trailing Fresno 4-1, infielder Jack Hannahan spearheaded a Rainiers charge with a triple to left-field that scored Matt Mangini from second. Third baseman Matt Tuiasosopo blasted the equalizer one batter later and locked things up at four runs apiece.
Winfree and his extra-innings home run proved to be the banner performance for the Rainiers in the win. The outfielder finished the day notching two hits and recording his third multi-RBI game of the season after driving in two runs. Outfielder Eugenio Velez led the Grizzlies after going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
Reliever Scott Patterson earned his first win with the Rainiers of the season after surrendering just one over one scoreless inning of work in the ninth. Fresno left-hander Alex Hinshaw gave up the two-run blast in the 11th en route to picking up his third loss of the season.
Tacoma starter Chris Seddon turned four innings of work in a no decision, giving up just one hit and no runs with one walk and one strikeout in his final start before heading to the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 14.
Tacoma now hits the road and heads to Reno to begin a four-game series with the Aces on Thursday following the three-day All-Star Break, July 12-14. The Rainiers wrap up the road trip with a four-game set at Las Vegas before returning to Cheney Stadium on Monday, July 19.
