July 11, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-Matt Torra started on the mound and helped his cause with a two-run, go-ahead homer, but the Sky Sox handed the Aces a 6-4 defeat Sunday afternoon at Security Service Field.
Reno got on the board first with an Ed Rogers RBI-single in the fourth, before Brandon Allen stole home on a double steal to put the Aces ahead 2-0. After the Sky Sox answered with three runs in the bottom half of the frame, Torra belted a two-run blast in the sixth to put the Aces in front 4-3. Colorado Springs would answer again with three more in the bottom half of the frame, however, taking the lead for good in the final matchup between the two teams this season.
Torra (5-6) suffered the loss for the Aces, surrendering a season-high 13 hits over 5.1 innings pitched. Zach Kroenke and Jason Urquidez tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to keep it close, but the Aces were unable to mount a comeback.
Kurt Birkins (4-4) earned the win for Colorado Springs, despite allowing the go-ahead blast to Torra. The Sky Sox used four relievers in the game after starter Esmil Rogers was bounced after 3.1 innings of work, with Matt Reynolds tossing a perfect ninth for his fifth save of the season.
Drew Macias and John Hester chipped in with two hits apiece for Reno, which was outhit 13-8 on the afternoon. Torra's home run was the second of his career and the second of the season by an Aces pitcher.
The Aces and the Pacific Coast League will take three days off for the All-Star break beginning Monday. Reno returns home Thursday, as it will play host to Tacoma for a four-game set. The series-opener is set for Thursday, July 15, at 7:05 p.m. from Aces Ballpark.
Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
