RH Rich Harden (rehab, no record) vs. RH Shane Loux (2-6, 6.36)
TONIGHT: The RedHawks look for a series win in the final game before the All-Star break against the Round Rock Express at The Dell Diamond. Round Rock held on to win 3-2 last night to narrow OKC's series lead to 2-1. Both OKC runs came on solo homers by Matt Brown in the second inning and Mitch Moreland in the ninth. Major league rehabber Rich Harden (strained left gluteal muscle) will get the start for the RedHawks. Harden is 3-3 with a 5.68 ERA for Texas in 13 starts, the most recent being on June 11 at Milwaukee. Righthander Shane Loux gets the start for the Express.
ROAD STREAK HALTED: The RedHawks' 3-game road winning streak and 4-game overall win streak ended last night in a 3-2 loss. The road winning streak matched the team's longest of the season. OKC also won 3 straight away from home April 16-18 and May 21-23.
OKC UNDER COOLBAUGH: Hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh is managing the RedHawks this series as Bobby Jones has returned to Maryland for his mother's funeral. Coolbaugh also skippered the team during a series against Albuquerque last month during Jones' annual, team-mandated 4-game vacation. The RedHawks are 4-3 under Coolbaugh this year.
HARDEN VISITS: Rich Harden, the Rangers' No. 2 starter entering the season, will make a rehab start today. Harden has been on Texas' DL since June 12 with a strained left gluteal muscle. Harden is expected to be followed by Doug Mathis, who was optioned by Texas yesterday along with Pedro Strop. Matt Harrison was recalled.
GOOD RETURNS: Craig Gentry and Matt Brown have recently returned from DL stints to positive offense results. Gentry, activated from the DL on Wednesday after sustaining sprained MCL in his left knee, is 10-for-21 in 4 starts and 5 total games since returning. Gentry went 2-for-4 last night. Brown returned from the DL July 1 and is 13-for-39 (.333) including a solo homer last night, hitting safely in 8 of 9 games.
NOTABLE PITCHING NUMBERS: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.62. OKC has allowed the fewest home runs in either Triple-A League (48), and remains the only team in the PCL or IL to have not allowed a 3-homer game. The RedHawks have allowed the PCL's fewest runs (366) and earned runs (311) while owning the best run differential in the league at +86.
EARLY RUNS: OKC has allowed the first run in 5 straight games, each time falling behind 1-0 before rallying to either tie the score or take the lead within 2 innings. OKC has allowed a first-inning run in 3 of the last 5 games, winning 4 of those. The RedHawks are 23-27 when allowing the first run and 25-12 when scoring first.
ERRORS MOUNTING: OKC committed 2 errors last night, leading to 2 unearned runs. In the past 22 games, the RedHawks have made 26 errors and allowed 20 unearned runs. The RedHawks are 11-11 in that span, and during those 22 games have not gone error-free in consecutive games. The last back-to-back errorless games were June 16, a doubleheader sweep of New Orleans.
SCHEPPERS IN FUTURES GAME: OKC righthander Tanner Scheppers is in Anaheim for today's XM Futures Game. Scheppers is the lone representative from the Rangers' organization.
MORELAND UPDATE: Right fielder Mitch Moreland leads the PCL with 11 outfield assists. He also has a 23-game on-base streak. During the streak, which began with the second game of a doubleheader June 16, Moreland is batting .333 (28-for-84) with 4 homers and 16 RBIs. Moreland has a separate, 23-game road on-base streak dating to May 27 at Tacoma. The road streak is the second best active on-base streak in the league behind Brock Bond of Fresno (26).
ODDS AND ENDS: OKC out-hit Round Rock 7-5 last night, losing for just the eighth time when out-hitting the opposition. The RedHawks are 33-8 when collecting more hits than the opponent.
UPCOMING PROBABLES: All-Star Break Monday-Wednesday; probables are TBA for the Iowa series beginning on Thursday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
