Snyder Leads Cubs to Walk off Win

July 11, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - Iowa Cubs News Release

Brad Snyder and the Iowa Cubs came-from-behind to walk off with a 2-1 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs Sunday afternoon at Principal Park.

The game was scoreless until the 10th inning. In the top of the 10th inning Scott Cousins homered for the Zephyrs, scoring the first run in the game, giving New Orleans a 1-0 lead. Darwin Barney, who was 3-for-5, doubled for Iowa in the bottom of the 10th with one out. Next batter, Snyder launched a home run to right center for the walk-off win. Snyder also extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a fourth-inning single.

Few scoring chances appeared for either team until the final frame. Barney singled but was tagged out at the plate in the first inning. LaHair doubled and the relay throw from New Orleans' center fielder Brett Carroll was on target for the out. Snyder reached third base in the Cubs' fourth inning, but the team was not able to produce a run.

New Orleans had even fewer scoring chances as only one base runner reached second base through the first five innings of the game.

Four Iowa pitchers combined to throw nine shutout innings. Scott Maine (2-1, 3.81) picked up the win despite giving up New Orleans' only run. Armando Benitez (0-1, 2.70) was tagged with the loss, as he allowed two hits, one a homer, and two runs.

Sam Fuld stole two bases in the game while LaHair and Snyder collected two hits.

The Triple-A All-Star break begin Monday. The team will play next Thursday in Oklahoma City.
