Tacoma Rainiers News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Tacoma Rainiers managed to contain Colorado Springs' late-inning rally and topped the Sky Sox 6-5 at Security Service Field on Sunday.

The Rainiers watched a 6-2 advantage drop to just one run after the Sky Sox tallied three runs over the eighth and ninth innings.

Scott Beerer hit a two-run double in the eighth and Carlos Triunfel's fielding error cleared the way for one more run in the ninth, but Tacoma retired three of the Sky Sox next four batters to clinch a series win over Colorado Springs in the club's final road game of the season.

The Rainiers permanently took the lead with a three-run inning in the fourth. Sean Kazmar doubled in a pair of runs and Ryan Spillborghs' throwing error drove in one more; erasing a 2-1 Sky Sox edge and putting Tacoma up 4-2.

Catcher Jose Yepez upped the lead to four runs with a two-run home run, his third this season, in the top of the eighth.

Left-hander Chris Seddon (9-6) earned the win for the Rainiers after holding the Sky Sox to a pair of runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts over a seven-inning start. Reliever Scott Patterson collected the final two outs in the ninth to record his seventh save of the season.

Colorado Springs' starter Joey Williamson (2-3) surrendered four runs to Tacoma, just one earned, on eight hits over six innings en route to collecting the loss.

The Rainiers (66-70) host a four-game series with the Tucson Padres at 7:05 p.m. on Monday as part of the club's final homestand of the season. Right-hander Jarrett Grube (4-3, 5.25) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against right-hander Jeremy Hefner (5-7, 5.36) for Tucson. The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.

From Monday, August 29 through Wednesday, August 31, all children 12 years of age and younger can come to a Rainiers game for just 50 cents. Tickets may be purchased only at the Cheney Stadium Box Office, located at 2502 S.
