RedHawks vs New Orleans-- The RedHawks begin a stretch of eight straight against the Zephyrs to close out the regular season...the clubs will play four at Zephyr Field before returning to Bricktown for the final four...New Orleans owns a 6-2 advantage in the series, winning the previous two series...The two clubs have not met since June 20...Of the current RedHawks who faced the Zephyrs, Oswaldo Navarro has had the most success, hitting .286 (6x21) in seven games...Joe Thurston is batting .469 (15x32) against OKC, with five extra base hits and six RBI...
Tonight's Probable Pitchers-- RedHawks starter Ryan Rowland-Smith (20G, 17 GS, 2-9, 6.080) continues to recover from a smashed finger that sidelined him for over a month...Rowland-Smith is searching for his first winning decision since May 11...In his last start, Rowland-Smith allowed seven runs and nine hits in 5.2 innings against the Iowa Cubs on Aug. 24 in a losing decision...the lefty recorded eight strikeouts without allowing a walk against the Cubs...Rowland-Smith is 0-2 in two starts against NOLA, posting a 16.20 ERA...The Zephyrs' Chris Sampson (18G, 17GS, 8-2, 3.87) defeated Oklahoma City on June 18 for his fourth win with New Orleans...the right-hander held the RedHawks to one run over seven innings, scattering four hits...Sampson, a former Houston Astro, was 6-0 before the All-Star break, but is only 2-2 since...
Last Game: August 29 - Oklahoma City RedHawks 2, Iowa Cubs 1-- The RedHawks offense scored two early runs, and starter Andy Van Hekken combined with the bullpen to make it stick in a 2-1 victory against the Cubs...it was the finale of a nine-game series between the clubs...Brett Wallace launched his first homer with OKC over the left field wall to tie the game 1-1 in the first inning...The RedHawks took the lead for good when J.R. Towles scored on a double play in the second inning...Van Hekken held Iowa to one run over 5.2 innings to record his eighth win of the season...The RedHawks used four relievers the rest of the way to take the win...Jose Valdez earned his sixth save with OKC by tossing a scoreless ninth...Iowa's only run was a home run to center by Lou Montanez on the third pitch of the game...
Hernandez Streak at 26, PCL's Longest in 2011-- Andrson Hernandez increased his PCL-best hitting streak to 26 games with a third inning roller to center for a single...he finished last night's game 1x4...Hernandez has posted a .395 (45x114) average during the streak, raising his average from .277 to .305...The PCL record for consecutive games batted safely in a single season is 61 by Joe DiMaggio of San Francisco May 28-July 25, 1933...
Finish Strong-- RedHawks outfielder Drew Locke has recorded a strong month of August, hitting at a .337 (30x89) pace...He was 1x4 yesterday...Locke has seven doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI...the 23 RBI are seven shy of his combined total for the previous four months, and rank as the highest monthly total in his AAA career...Locke belted three home runs (including a grand slam) and drove in 12 in two games against Tucson Aug. 8-9...Locke is batting .311 since the All-Star break, steadily raising his season average from .236 to .267
Wallace Goes Deep-- First baseman Brett Wallace belted his first home run with OKC yesterday, an opposite field line drive to the LF bleachers...Wallace was 2x4 yesterday, and is hitting .363 (33x91) since being optioned down from Houston on July 31...Of the 33 base hits, most have been of the single variety...Wallace has eight doubles and 21 RBI since joining the RedHawks...
Too Close for Comfort-- The RedHawks have played in 52 one-run games in 2011, posting a 27-25 (.519) record in one run finals, the seventh best percentage in the PCL...The RedHawks have the second most one-run victories behind Sacramento (28), but also the second most one-run losses in the league...New Orleans ranks just ahead of OKC with a 23-19 (.523) record in one-run games...
Chalk it Up-- The Oklahoma City RedHawks won their 10th series of the year by going 4-1 against the Iowa Cubs at RedHawks Field...The RedHawks took six of nine in the long stretch against the Cubs...Oklahoma City has won five season series, besting Iowa (10-6), Albuquerque (9-7), Nashville (9-7), Reno (3-1) and Tucson (3-1)...On the other side, the RedHawks have dropped four season series, Memphis (5-11), Round Rock (6-10), Omaha (6-10) and Salt Lake (1-3)...
Del Rosario Continues Rehab Assignment-- Astros reliever Enerio Del Rosario has started a rehabilitation assignment with the RedHawks, recovering from a left shoulder strain...Del Rosario has made two appearances for OKC, tossing two scoreless innings...he allowed one hit in each...Del Rosario was placed on the 15-day disabled list August 6...In 44 games with Houston, Del Rosario is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA (23ER/46.0IP)...
