Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Round Rock Express outfielder Joey Butler was named to the Pacific Coast League Postseason All-Star Team, the league office announced Monday. Butler is the first Express player to be so honored since Bud Norris in 2009. He is the first Express position player so honored since shortstop Danny Klassen and third baseman Mike Coolbaugh both were selected in 2005.
Butler, who began his season with Double-A Frisco, settled in with the Express for good in mid-May. He leads the Express and ranks 12th in the PCL with a .326 batting average (130-for-399). Butler has 27 doubles, five triples, 12 home runs, 53 RBI, 72 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. He is second on the team with 38 multiple-hit games and has hit safely in 89 of 104 games with the Express. Butler's 16-game hitting streak earlier this season is the longest by a Round Rock player this season and was the third longest in franchise history.
The PCL Postseason All-Star Team was selected by league coaches and media members. Joining Butler on the team were catcher Anthony Recker (Sacramento), first baseman Bryan LaHair (Iowa), second baseman Johnny Giavotella (Omaha), third baseman Taylor Green (Nashville), shortstop and former Express member Cody Ransom (Reno), outfielders Collin Cowgill (Reno) and Jai Miller (Sacramento), designated hitter Clint Robinson (Omaha), right-handed starter Luis Mendoza (Omaha), left-handed starter Dana Eveland (Albuquerque) and reliever Victor Marte (Memphis).
Round Rock currently shares the league's best record at 81-55. The Express already have clinched the American Southern Division title, their first since 2006, and will play the winner of the American Northern Division in the first round of the PCL playoffs. Omaha currently leads Memphis by four games in the American Northern Division with eight games remaining in the regular season.
The Express continue the season's final road trip with a four-game series against Omaha, starting tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at Werner Park in Papillion, Neb. Round Rock concludes the regular season with a four-game series against Albuquerque at The Dell Diamond beginning Friday.
