Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (5-8, 21-26 overall) fell for the second straight night to the first place Wisconsin Woodchucks (11-1, 28-19 overall), this time at home at Witter Field. The Woodchucks scored the first five runs of the night, and the Rafters couldn't muster a comeback, dropping 5-2.

Cole Webb (SO, Valparaiso Univ.) allowed five runs, four earned, against the Woodchucks in his six innings of work. The Woodchucks tallied nine hits off the right-hander tying a season high given up by Webb. The "˜Chucks tallied a run in the first, second, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth. Eric Filia-Snyder continued to smash Rafters' pitching Tuesday. After a 3-for-4 day yesterday, Filia-Synder went 3-for-3 off of Webb. He hit his third homer of the year, a two-run jack, in the fifth to give Wisconsin a 5-0 lead.

Off of Austin Pettibone, the Rafters would finally pick up a run in the sixth. The right-hander threw five innings of scoreless, two-hit ball before Sean Godfrey (SO, Ball State Univ.) scored in the sixth. The Rafters right fielder put down a bunt single with one out. He then stole second and third on back-to-back pitches and scored when Woodchucks catcher Skyler Ewing threw the ball away trying to throw him out at third.

Then the rain came. It poured for roughly 25 minutes, but the storms quickly rolled through Wisconsin Rapids, and play resumed after a 55-minute delay. Jackson Lowery would mow down the Rafters in his three innings of releif, striking out seven batters. He did allow a pair of hits in the eighth, as Kenny Towns (FR, Univ. of Virginia) doubled in Eric Loxtercamp (FR, St. Cloud State) to make it 5-2. He would strike out the side in the ninth though to end it.

Pettibone picked up his first win (1-3), and Webb took the loss (2-2). Lowery, with his three innings, collected his fourth save of the season. Pat Kelly (FR, Univ. of Nebraska) went 0-for-4 snapping his 13-game hitting streak and 20-game home on-base streak.

The Rafters (5-7, 21-26 overall) travel to Green Bay to begin a two game series with the Bullfrogs (11-1, 28-19) Wednesday night. Augey Bill (2-0, 2.37 ERA) takes the bump for the Rafters in his fourth start. First pitch from Joannes stadium is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
