Chicago Dogs News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Keon Barnum mashed his 19th home run and David Olmedo-Barrera extended his hitting streak to 25 games, but the Chicago Dogs came up short as they fell to the Cleburne Railroaders, 13-6, on Saturday night at Impact Field.
The Railroaders struck first in the second inning, as a home run by Hunter Clanin and an RBI single by Daniel Robertson gave the visitors a 2-0 advantage.
The lead was short-lived, however, as the Dogs stormed back with a five-spot in the bottom half of the frame. After three straight singles loaded the bases to start the inning, Gustavo Pierre reached on an error to get Chicago on the board.
On the next three at-bats, Mitchell Kranson, Tony Rosselli and Olmedo-Barrera each recorded RBI singles to make it a 4-2 Dogs lead. Edwin Arroyo plated another run with a sacrifice fly on a diving catch from Cleburne's Zach Nehrir, giving Chicago the 5-2 advantage.
The Railroaders responded in a grand way, tallying four more runs over the next two innings off Wes Torrez (L, 1-3) to take a 6-5 lead going into the fifth.
The Railroaders weren't finished yet, as they rallied for four more runs off of Justin Goossen-Brown in the fifth inning.
Barnum's opposite-field blast brought the Dogs within 10-6 in the sixth.
Carlos Zambrano shut down the high-octane Railroaders with 1.2 shutout frames, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out three to keep it a four-run game.
Cleburne then added a three-run homer in the ninth off of Harrison Smith to put the exclamation mark on their offensive outburst.
LHP Austin Wright will get the start for game two tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch set for 3:05 PM.
