Cleburne Railroaders News Release

ROSEMONT, Illinois - Rafael Palmeiro hit two homers and drove in all five runs in his return to the lineup, and Michael Gunn gave up just two unearned runs in a 5-4 win over the Chicago Dogs in the series opener at Impact Field on Friday night.

Palmeiro hit a pair of two-run homers - one in the 2nd and again in the 4th - and later tacked on his season-high fifth RBI with an insurance single in the 8th.

Michael Gunn, making his fourth start of the year, worked a season-best seven-plus innings and gave up a pair of unearned runs on just five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Cleburne won for just the fourth time on the road this year, clubbing four extra-base hits in the first-ever meeting between the two newest American Association franchises.

Will Mathis pitched a scoreless inning while Shawn Blackwell inherited a three-run lead in the 9th and gave up two runs but stranded the bases loaded and earned his seventh save of the year.

Levi Scott doubled and scored in the 4th inning, while Chase Simpson went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in his Railroaders debut.

Patrick Palmeiro walked, but went 0-for-3 and snapped his six-game hitting streak.

Cleburne pegged Chicago starter Connor Root for four runs on six hits over 5.1 innings.

The Railroaders continue the three-game series with the Chicago Dogs on Saturday night, with RHP Jared Mortensen throwing for Cleburne.

Cleburne returns home July 13th to open a series with the Chicago Dogs. Good seats are still available and all promotional info can be found at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
