Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Kansas City T-Bones swept a doubleheader vs. the Texas AirHogs Thursday at AirHogs Stadium. The AirHogs carried a lead into the seventh inning of Game 1 before ultimately falling in eight innings 4-3. The T-Bones threw a combined no-hitter in Game 2 to power a 1-0 win.
Gan Quan got the start for the AirHogs in Game 1 and enjoyed an early lead. Casio Grider and Luan Chenchen picked up RBIs for the AirHogs in the second to put the team up 2-0. Kansas City bounced back for a pair of runs in the third though to equalize the game at 2-2.
A sacrifice fly by Stewart Ijames gave the AirHogs a 3-2 lead in the fifth. Gan Quan exited the game in the sixth before Carlos Contreras came in for the seventh in replacement of Sean Stutzman. Dexter Kjerstad singled and stole second against him before moving up on a wild pitch and scoring on a third strike passed ball to tie the game.
Kjerstad would prove to be key in the game's extra eighth frame, sending a seeing-eye RBI single through the left side off Yang Yanyong to give Kansas City a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish.
Yang Yanyong (0-2) suffered the loss, while Marcus Crescentini (2-2) picked up the win. Carlos Diaz earned his ninth save of the season.
Francisco Gracesqui, Kevin Hill, Joe Filomeno, and Cody Winiarski combined for a seven-inning no-hitter in Game 2. Gracesqui struck out nine in four frames to set the tone early. T-Bones pitching went off for 13 total strikeouts in the game. Gracesqui was awarded the win to move to 2-2 on the season. Winiarski picked up his fourth save.
Sun Jianzeng (0-3) pitched brilliantly for the AirHogs, allowing just one run and two hits over six frames while striking out five. Kjerstad tagged him for a homer in the fifth that proved to be the game's only run.
Texas (11-33) will continue to the four-game series tomorrow vs. the Kansas City T-Bones (29-16). First pitch is slated for 7:05. RHP Miguel Rosario (1-6, 4.79 ERA) is expected to start for Texas vs. RHP Hunter Adkins (1-2, 4.05 ERA) for Kansas City.
