Cleburne Railroaders News Release
SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Cam Monger finished a triple shy of the cycle, but Cleburne surrendered three runs in the 8th inning and lost 6-3 to the Sioux City Explorers at Mercy Field on Wednesday night.
Monger's three-hit night included a game-tying solo homer in the 6th inning that evened things up at three, but John Hayes - pitching for the second straight night - gave up all three runs in the 8th and Cleburne lost for a season-high sixth straight time.
Cleburne jumped out to a quick lead in the 1st after Angel Rosa hit his second leadoff homer in as many nights, and Chase Simpson clubbed a one-out solo shot to make it 2-0.
The Explorers scored an unearned run in the 3rd before scoring twice more in the 5th inning to take their first lead of the game. Nate Samson had a pair of sacrifice flies and Michael Lang also drove in a run.
Ryan Flores hadn't given up a run in 7.1 innings against Cleburne this year, but Monger's leadoff shot in the 6th ended that streak. Cleburne has scored five times over the last two games - all five coming on solo homers.
Dexture McCall - who was 1-for-his-last-27 - had the big two-run single in the 8th after Samson and Sermo reached on one-out singles and Jay Austin was intentionally walked with a base open. Dylan Kelly padded the lead with a sacrifice fly off of Shawn Blackwell.
Jesus Sanchez pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th and Patrick Mincey allowed just one earned run over six innings with a season-high four walks and three strikeouts.
Chase Simpson reached three times, including his solo homer, and Rosa posted a multi-hit night before he was hit by a pitch in the 7th inning and lifted from the game. K.C. Huth went 1-for-4 and extended hit hitting streak to four game.
Cleburne now wraps up the season-long eight-game roadtrip with the finale of the four-game series on Thursday night. First pitch time is set for 7:05 p.m. and RHP Dylan Mouzakes will go head-to-head with LHP Ian McKinney.
Cleburne returns home on July 27th with a doubleheader against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Tickets and all promo info are available at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
