Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - Cameron Monger hit a second three-run homer in as many nights, and Cleburne used a four-run 4th inning to cruise to a 5-3 win over the Texas AirHogs at The Depot on Monday night.
Monger was the fourth consecutive Railroader to reach in the 4th inning after Trevor Sealey, Levi Scott and Patrick Palmeiro all hit singles on the first pitch they saw. Palmeiro's single drove in Sealey and cut the deficit to 3-2 before Monger gave Cleburne the lead with his 6th homer of the season.
Cleburne starter Josh Hodges went six innings and gave up three runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in his second start of the year.
The AirHogs took an early lead on Correlle Prime's two-run homer in the 2nd inning, but Patrick Palmeiro halved the deficit with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 2nd.
In the 4th, Chen Junpeng restored Texas's two-run lead with a two-out infield single that scored Dillon Thomas, who scored two of the three AirHog runs on Monday.
After Cleburne's four-run 4th inning, the teams exchanged zeroes before Shawn Blackwell notched his sixth save of the year with a 1-2-3 9th inning. Jesus Sanchez pitched two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit with three strikeouts.
Palmeiro and Monger's homers were the 9th and 10th homers that Cleburne has hit over the last four games, and Cleburne now has 33 homers through 41 games - matching its home run total in 100 games last season.
The Railroaders and AirHogs continue a home-home-and-home series with Game 2 at AirHogs Stadium on Tuesday night. First pitch time is set for 5:35 p.m., and RHP Patrick Mincey will throw for Cleburne.
Cleburne returns home Wednesday night to wrap up the three-game series, and as part of a July 4th special, the club will put on a postgame fireworks show and the first 500 fans at the ballpark will receive a free American Flag courtesy of Grandview Bank. Tickets can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
