The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders took a 2-0 series lead in the ILDS with a 3-0 win Thursday night in Moosic. The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will now need to win all three games at Coca-Cola Park this weekend if they are to advance to Governors' Cup Finals.
The RailRiders took a 1-0 lead against Cole Irvin (0-1) in the bottom of the fourth. After Mark Payton tripled to lead off the inning, Gio Urshella brought him home on a groundout to make it 1-0. In the 5th, Wilkin Castillo homered on a ball that bounded off the top of the wall and over the fence to make it 2-0.
Irvin went seven innings and allowed six hits and two runs. He struck out four and walked just one.
The IronPigs were held without a hit through 7 1/3 innings against Nestor Cortes (1-0). Cortes retired 20 straight batters from the first inning until the eighth when Andrew Knapp broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle. Cortes walked one and struck out seven in the outing.
The RailRiders got insurance in the bottom the eighth against Pedro Beato. After Payon singled, a pair of wild pitches allowed him to score and make it a 3-0 game.
