
RailRiders Split Twin Bill with PawSox

Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) salvaged a doubleheader split with the Pawtucket Red Sox on Saturday afternoon at PNC Field. The RailRiders (8-9) committed five errors and dropped a 4-1 decision to the PawSox (11-6) in game one. SWB rallied back to claim game two 7-4.
Ben Gamel and Rob Refsnyder were instrumental in building an early 3-0 advantage for the RailRiders in the night cap. Gamel tripled and scored on an infield single by Refsnyder in the first inning for a 1-0 tally. In the third, Slade Heathcott singled and moved to third on a double Gamel. Refsnyder lined a double to right that scored both.
Diego Moreno got the start for SWB and pitched four scoreless innings before giving way to Jose Ramirez. The PawSox rallied against the right-hander in the sixth. Jemile Weeks led off with a single. After inducing a groundout to third from Jeff Bianchi, Ramirez issued four consecutive walks to that sliced the lead to one at 3-2.
Nick Rumbelow (2-0) entered for Ramirez and fanned Quintin Berry for the second out. With two strikes on Garin Cecchini, Rumbelow unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Blake Swihart to score the tying run.
The RailRiders answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Zeke Spruill (2-1). Tyler Austin lined a single to right with one out and moved to second on a chopper to second by Jonathan Galvez. Austin Romine followed with a sharp hit to right, scoring Austin. Cole Figueroa extended the frame with a bloop single and Nick Noonan provided another insurance run by plating Romine with a single. A throwing error by center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. allowed Figueroa and Noonan into scoring position. Heathcott capped the inning with a two-run single.
Rumbelow allowed a run in the seventh on a doubles by Deven Marrero and Bradley before punching out Swihart on strikes to close out the win.
Pawtucket took advantage of five miscues to claim game one, 4-1. Three of their four runs were unearned. Bryan Mitchell (1-2) went the distance for SWB, earning the second complete game of his career. He tossed seven innings, allowing three hits, one walk and struck out seven.
Eddie Rodriguez (2-0) earned the win by also completing seven innings for the PawSox. The southpaw allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts.
The RailRiders conclude their series with the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox) on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Left-hander Matt Tracy make his 2015 debut with SWB against right-hander Keith Couch (1-2, 3.94).
