North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Thursday, August 14, 2008) - The Carolina RailHawks (4-9-9) host Connally Edozien and Miami FC (5-8-9) on Friday, August 15, at 8:00 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park. The match is presented by Staker Chiropractic and by Stanley Dentistry and the first 500 fans will receive koozies courtesy of the official dentist of the Carolina RailHawks. Tickets ($10, $15 and $20) are still available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425), at all Ticketmaster outlets or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
This match is the third nationally televised match of the season for the RailHawks and sparks will most certainly fly as both teams are looking to get back into the playoff picture. The game will mark the RailHawks debut of defender/midfielder Eddie Gutierrez and the return of Connally Edozien to WakeMed Soccer Park. Edozien was traded to Miami for Gutierrez on August 1.
"This is a must win for us," said RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. "It is also a must win for them as both teams are trying to get back into the playoff picture. The fact that both teams are fighting for position in the standings will make it a very interesting game."
The RailHawks are fighting to get back in to playoff range and are coming off a 2-0 loss against Montreal. They have already beaten Miami 1-0 at the beginning of the season with a great game-winning goal by Dan Antoniuk.
"Of course this will be a very tough game," said Miami FC Head Coach Zinho. "It may be the most important of the season for both teams. I truly believe that whoever wins will get a moral boost to keep on fighting to advance in this tournament. The losing team will be practically out of the race."
Miami is coming off a 0-0 tie in Atlanta last Friday and have suffered a 2-1 loss against Vancouver the previous week. They are led by Alex Afonso, whose league-leading ten goals make him one of the best forwards in the USL. Miami has also announced a trade yesterday with the Atlanta Silverbacks, receiving forward Ansu Toure' for defender Sean Cameron. Toure' has six goals and three assists so far this season with the Silverbacks.
The RailHawks embark on the second to last road trip of the season next week as they visit Minnesota on August 22 and Seattle on August 24 before returning home to host the Montreal Impact on Saturday, August 30 at 7:30 p.m. All away games may be viewed on USLLive.com and tickets for the August 30 match may be purchased at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425), at all Ticketmaster outlets or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
