Club sets new attendance record; set to break 100,000 mark

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers conclude a three-match homestand on Saturday against the Montreal Impact on Takayuki Suzuki Bobblehead Night at 7 p.m. at PGE Park live on FSN. On Saturday, the Timbers could surpass the 100,000 milestone in regular-season attendance for the first time in modern franchise history.
The first 1,000 fans on Saturday will receive a bobblehead of Timbers forward Takayuki Suzuki courtesy of Toyota. Tickets, starting at $11, are available through the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (503) 224-4400.
Saturday's match against Montreal is one of two remaining matches televised on FSN.
On Aug. 9 against the Charleston Battery, the Timbers broke the club's modern franchise record for regular-season attendance at PGE Park, previously set last season. The 6,283 on hand pushed the club's totals through 12 regular-season matches to 99,347, hurdling the previous record of 95,594 set after all 14 regular-season home matches in 2007. With three home matches remaining, the Timbers are in position to break the 100,000 mark in regular-season attendance for the first time since joining the USL First Division in 2001.
Portland (5-8-10, 25pts) and Montreal are tied for eighth place in a tight USL First Division table. The Timbers are two points behind the Minnesota Thunder in seventh and sit just four back of the Rochester Rhinos in sixth place. The top seven clubs advance to the USL First Division playoffs.
The Impact (7-9-4, 25pts) make their only regular-season trip to PGE Park on Saturday. Portland captured a 1-0 win over the Impact in Montreal in their first meeting of the season on May 30. Forward Chris Brown scored just before halftime to help the Timbers begin a two-game road trip with a victory. The Timbers are 4-2-2 all-time against Montreal.
Brown and defender Scot Thompson return to action for Portland on Saturday following league-imposed disciplinary action for recent red cards. Brown finished a three-match suspension, while Thompson served just a single-game suspension against Charleston last weekend.
The Impact will be without forward Roberto Brown, the team's leading scorer, for their match against the Timbers due to a league-imposed, three-match suspension. Brown has two goals and three assists in 11 matches this season for Montreal.
