ST PAUL, Minn. (August 14, 2008)- The Minnesota Thunder go on the road to play the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, August 16 to earn three more points and continue their quest for the playoffs. The Thunder is currently 7-9-6 with 27 points coming into Saturday's game.
About the Thunder
The Minnesota Thunder is playing their best soccer of the season after beating Charleston and Seattle at home last week. The Thunder has moved up from the bottom in the First Division standings to 7th place and is just two points behind the 6th place team. The Thunder has scored at least two goals in their past five games, all of which have been at home. The Thunder hasn't been on the road since July 3 in Atlanta, and has grown a lot during their home stretch.
"We are looking forward to battling Rochester on the road. We have come a long way since we met last and both teams are going to be hungry for three points. The game is going to be exciting and hard fought," said interim head coach Donny Gramenz.
"The team has been working hard this last week. We are excited about going to Rochester especially after having a two game winning streak. We know that it will be a hard game but we have the confidence in ourselves and know that we can get another 3 points on the road if we play how we have been the last couple of games. We have to be organized defensively and the rest will take its place," said Thunder defender Andres Arango.
Ricardo Sanchez- Team of the Week
After an amazing performance against Seattle, Sanchez moved up to 5th in the league in points with 20 in 20 games. Against the Sounders, Sanchez scored two goals in a 3-1 win. His first goal was a header to put the Thunder up, his second off a free kick from 40 yards out that secured the win for the Thunder. Sanchez earned Team of the Week honors for the third time this season, and is looking to move the Thunder forward with his success.
