RailCats Sweep T-Bones and Wrap up Winning Homestand

GARY, IN - The weather finally cooperated and the Gary South Shore RailCats made sure to take advantage of clearing skies sweeping the Kansas City T-Bones in a doubleheader Wednesday at US Steel Yard. The RailCats also won their second series of the season and their first of more than two games and also finished the home stand with a 4-3 record.

In the early game the RailCats got a superb outing from Stephen Bougher (2-0) who went 6.1 innings to pick up the win. Bougher worked three 1-2-3 innings and scattered a RailCat season low three hits allowed and three walks in 9-0 victory. The RailCats also picked up their first shutout of the season and matched a nine run margin of victory for the second time this season.

The RailCat offense got a huge day from Wally Backman Jr. who went 2 for 3 and drove in 3 while Josh Romanski stayed hot going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI. Craig Maddox knocked in two going 1 for 2 carrying that over into game two.

In the second game the two teams went back and forth until Maddox drove in the winning run with a single up the middle scoring Adam Taylor in a 4-3 walk off win in extra innings. The RailCats never led in the game until the last inning but three times after Kansas City took a lead the Cats tied the game up. Ryan Babineau went 2 for 4 scoring two runs sparking three RailCats rallies including the game winning inning.

The RailCats got a good outing from Morgan Coombs (ND) tossing 5.0 IP giving up 3 ER with Kevin Brahney (1-0) getting the win in relief working the last inning for the win.

The RailCats begin a seven game road trip beginning Friday night June 30th in Wichita the first of a three game series. Then trip continues with a four game series in Sioux City Monday June 2nd through June 5th. The RailCats return home to US Steel Yard Friday June 6th at 7:10pm to face Sioux Falls.
