Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks got a bunt single from C.J. Retherford that scored Anthony Kaskadden with the winning run for an 8-7 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
First inning of the night game saw no action in terms of runs scored. This would, however, change in the bottom of the second inning, when Sioux Falls Canaries' Kyle Ruwe struggled to control his pitches. Nic Jackson started the rally with a one-out walk, Petey Paramore followed with a single to shallow right, and Brandon Newman walked to load the bases. Anthony Kaskadden would bring in Jackson with his infield single, and Zach Penprase would plate two with his single to the right field to make it 3-0.
Unfortunately for the RedHawks, Brian Ernst would face similar problems and after walking two hitters, Shelby Ford found the gap in the center field and plated Carlos Mendez and Brandon Jones, making it 3-3. The 'Hawks added another three runs in the bottom of that inning to double up the Canaries 6-3.
From that moment on, Sioux Falls and Fargo-Moorhead would go back and forth, each adding one run at a time, both in the fourth inning. With the score being 7-4, the Canaries added another run in the fifth, seventh and finally the tying, seventh run, in the top of the eight.
That was, however, a no-problem situation for the RedHawks, who have already walked-off this home-stand on Monday. The rally was started in the bottom of the ninth by Kaskadden, singling up the middle. Clutch bunt by Penprase moved Kaskadden into the scoring position with one out. After the fielder's choice on Sawyer Carroll's hit, Kaskadden got safely to third, with two outs on the board. Ronnie Bourquin received an intentional walk, and Retherford knew he had to be the hero tonight.
3,059 fans on the night game at the Newman Outdoor Stadium were able to witness the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks' coming back from a rough inning all the way to an 8-7 walk-off win over the Sioux Falls Canaries, after Retherford laid down a beautiful bunt for a base hit, giving the win to the RedHawks.
The RedHawks captured second win of the series, both walk-off wins, and move to a 7-6 record, above .500 for the fifth time this season.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will now host the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 7:02pm, with the following games on Friday (7:02pm), Saturday (6pm) and Sunday at 1pm. Tickets can be purchased at fmredhawks.com or by calling 701-235-6161.
