Railcats Shut Out Goldeyes to Even Series

GARY, IN - The Gary SouthShore RailCats used a five-run third and a three-run fifth as they cruised to a 10-0 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Saturday afternoon at U.S. Steel Yard.

Gary loaded the bases in the third inning and with one out, RailCats center fielder Jesus Marriaga placed a double down the right field line which plated three. Later in the inning right fielder Francisco Del Valle plated two on a single to right field.

The RailCats added three more runs in the fifth on another three-run double, this time by designated hitter LG Castillo. Gary finished with 13 hits while every RailCat in the starting nine reached base safely.

Lost in all the Gary offense was five shutout innings by right-handed starter Harrison Francis (1-0). He didn't allow a hit, walked two and struck out seven.

The only Winnipeg hit was a two-out seventh inning infield single by catcher Chris Burgess.

Goldeyes starter Travis Seabrooke (0-1) in his first start with Winnipeg allowed eight runs (all earned) in 4 1/3 innings. He issued ten hits, walked two and struck out three. The eight runs were the most Seabrooke has allowed at any level of professional baseball. It matches the most hits he's ever given up. The last time he surrendered ten hits was in Rookie New York Penn League with the Aberdeen IronBirds (Baltimore) on August 24th, 2015 at Staten Island (Yankees).

The visitors did get a solid relief outing from Josh Vincent. The former RaliCat in his first game as a Goldeye, pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings. He didn't allow a hit and walked one.

The rubber match between these teams will be on Sunday afternoon with a 2:00 first pitch in Gary. Third year Goldeyes right-hander Landon Bourassa gets the start for Winnipeg against Gary left-hander Chris Erwin. It'll be the first appearance this year for both.

GOLDEYES EXTRAS

Keith Torres made his professional debut coming into the game at third base in the sixth inning. The first batter in that inning popped out to him as he made a running catch falling into the stands

The Goldeyes only had runner reach third base.

Last year Winnipeg was shutout four times
