RailCats Drop Second in a Row on the Road

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Gary SouthShore RailCats attempted a late rally, but it wasn't enough as the Sioux City Explorers handed the RailCats their second consecutive defeat by a 10-6 final on Saturday night.
Kent Sakamoto put Sioux City ahead in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer, his second homer in as many games and eighth of the season. The RailCats rebounded in the top of the second, sending eight men to the plate in scoring thre runs to take a 3-2 advantage. Cristian Guerrero opend the inning by drawing a walk and Toddric Johnson followed with a single through the hole on the right side of the infield. Kyle Haines tied the contest by cracking a double to deep center and scored moments later on a sacrifice fly from Mike Valadez.
Designated Hitter Brett Flowers belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to answer and put the X's in front again at 4-3. Another two-run homer off the bat of Brian Bistagne padded the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth. Ray Serrano joined the homer parade in the fifth, also connecting on a two-run homer to further the lead to 8-3. Alain Quijano departed after the homer in his shortest start with the RailCats, lasting just 4.1 innings.
Sioux City stretched the advantage to 10-3 with runs in the seventh and eighth. The RailCats tried to mount a comeback in the top of the ninth, finally chasing Sioux City starter Ty Marotz from the game. Johnson and Mike Rohde drew walks sandwiched around an out. A run scored on an error before Chris Carrara roped a double down the left field line to bring the RailCats within 10-6. Marotz exited following 8.1 innings, his longest outing of the season. The RailCats left the tying run in the on deck circle as Eddie Delacruz, the third pitcher of the game, posted the save against his former team.
The loss marks the first time the RailCats have suffered back-to-back defeats since July 12-13. Sioux City (36-36) has won four in a row from the RailCats. Haines and Carrara each registered two hits in the game.
The series concludes tomorrow night in Iowa at 6:05 p.m. LHP Carlos Rivas (5-0, 1.81) starts for the RailCats opposite RHP Nick Schumacher (7-4, 2.77).
