Wichita Wingnuts News Release
KANSAS CITY, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 6-1 to the Kansas City T-Bones at Community America Ballpark on Saturday night.
In the top of the first, Jimmy Mojica led off with an infield single, beating out Josh Horn's throw to first on a groundball to shortstop. Keanon Simon then worked a 10-pitch at bat before lining a single to left, chasing Mojica to third base. Rico Washington drove in Mojica with an RBI single down the right field line. With runners on first and third, Ray Sadler hit a groundball to short that plated Simon.
The T-Bones added two more in the bottom of the fifth. With first and second and no outs, Kala Ka'aihue singled to right-center to drive in Sadler. After Aharon Eggleston bunted for a single to load the bases, Wingnuts' starter Junior Guerra was relieved by Jared Simon. Simon got Johnny Bowden to hit a groundball towards third base, but threw low to home plate after picking up the ball in an attempt to get the force. Jim Fasano scored from third, but Simon was able to record an out when Ka'aihue tried to score from second.
Eggleston grounded a two-run single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-0 Kansas City. Wingnuts' manager Kevin Hooper was ejected following Eggleston's hit, arguing with home plate umpire Bryan Childe on pitch to Ka'aihue earlier in the inning.
Peter Barrows hit a home run down the left field line in the top of the seventh to account for the Wingnuts' lone run.
Trent Lare earned the win for Kansas City, allowing one earned run on three hits in eight full innings. Lare struck out five and walked three.
Guerra took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, in four-plus innings. Guerra allowed nine hits, four walks, and struck out four.
Matt Nevarez, Logan Hoch, and Kendy Batista combined for two and one-third scoreless innings of relief.
Josh Horn singled in the third to extend his hitting streak to 15 games in a row. Brent Clevlen doubled in the top of the sixth to stretch his streak to 12 games.
