RailCats Closing In on Playoff Berth
Published on August 30, 2005 under Northern League (NL)
Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
With a solid finish to the 2005 season, the Gary SouthShore RailCats will be making the first playoff appearance in franchise history Tuesday, September 6. Because the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will finish with the best record in the North Division in both the first and second halves, a wild card team will participate the Northern League post-season.
The wild card is awarded to the team not currently in the playoffs (the team who has won neither half in their division) with the best overall record. The winner of the wild card race will begin postseason play at Fargo-Moorhead on September 6 to open a best-of-five series. Currently, the RailCats sit comfortably ahead in the wild card standings, but are also threatening to overtake Lincoln for the South Division title in the second half.
Should the RailCats win the division they would open post-season play with a best-of-five series in St. Paul, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 6th, against the Saints, champions of the first half in the South Division. If the RailCats do not win the division but earn the wildcard berth, they would begin a best-of-five series at Fargo, North Dakota on September 6th. The RailCats would host game three of the first round of the playoffs on either September 8th or 9th. If the series continues beyond three games, they would host game four on the next date.
