Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

CANYON, TX- The Gary SouthShore RailCats (35-31) and the Texas AirHogs (24-42) combined for 31 hits in a 10-5 RailCats win on Friday night.

The game was unique on many levels; it featured an inordinate amount of offense, was played a day late and was played at a foreign ballpark. The contest was originally scheduled for Thursday night at Potter County Memorial Stadium in Amarillo. Due to rain on Wednesday night, the field was unplayable on Thursday and the game was postponed. The field was still unusable today and the scheduled double header had to be changed to one game and moved to Wilder Park in Canyon, Texas. The stadium is on the campus of West Texas A&M.

The game time and location concerns did not impact the team's offenses. The RailCats managed 20 hits, a new season high, and 10 runs while the AirHogs launched four home runs.

Karl Triana (4-4) earned the win for the RailCats by pitching seven innings and giving up five runs (four earned). He allowed nine hits but struck out five AirHogs. Sam Martin (3-6) was charged with the loss for Texas. The right-hander surrendered eight runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings pitched.

Leon Byrd opened the scoring with a solo shot off of the second pitch thrown by Triana. Frank Martinez scored on an Alex Crosby RBI in the top of the 2nd inning to even the score.

The RailCats grabbed the lead in a three-run 3rd inning and solidified their win with a four-run 5th. They tallied insurance runs in the 7th and 9 th as well.

After scoring one run in each of the first two innings, the AirHogs didn't score again until the 7th. Nick Atkins, Cody Lenahan and Cory Morales hit consecutive home runs to begin the frame.

Seven RailCats had multi-hit days and three had multi-RBI performances. Alex Crosby recorded three RBIs and John Holland added a couple, including one on his first professional home run. Adron Chambers was 2-6 in his RailCats debut. Andy Roberts and Moises Melendez each threw one scoreless inning of relief.

The RailCats continue their series against the AirHogs at Wilder Park tomorrow. It's a double header, with first pitch of the first game at 2:05 PM. You can listen to both games online at railcatsbaseball.com.
