Wichita Wingnuts News Release
LAREDO, Texas- After waiting out a 39-minute weather delay at the beginning of the evening, the Wichita Wingnuts fell 12-1 to the Laredo Lemurs in a contest that was finished in eight innings after a second wave of storms came through Friday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The Lemurs (37-30) struck first, as Leandro Castro homered with two outs in the first to put the home team in front.
Wichita (41-25) got the run back in the third. Christian Stringer doubled, stole third, and then came in to score on an RBI double by Brent Clevlen.
The game was not tied for long however, as Zane Chavez put the Lemurs back in front with a two-run single in the home half of the frame.
The score remained the same over the next several innings as pitching started to take over on both sides. Wichita chased Laredo starter Ryan Beckman after four innings, but the Lemur bullpen kept the Wingnuts off the board over the final four, with Luis Pollorena (3-1) working a pair of frames to earn the win.
For the Wingnuts, Todd Kibby (1-2) retired 11 in a row after allowing the two-run single by Chavez, but the run came to an end in the seventh, when Laredo put together a big inning to knock him out of the game.
The Lemurs put together five consecutive hits in that frame, putting four runs on the board. They then added five more in the eighth, with Castro putting an exclamation point on the Laredo victory with a three-run homer, his second of the evening.
The Wingnuts look to even their series with the Lemurs Saturday night at Uni-Trade Stadium. Righty Eddie Medina (3-3, 5.59) will be on the hill for Wichita, while Laredo will counter with fellow right-hander Barrett Loux (3-1, 1.62). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
