Explorers Fall To Canaries In Extra-Innings

Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux City Explorers fall to the Sioux Falls Canaries with a 3-2 score in extra-innings at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Sioux Falls jumped to an early 2-0 lead, scoring runs in the first and fifth inning. Blake Schmit reached first on a two out single, advanced to second with a stolen base and scored on an RBI single by David Bergin for their first run. In the fifth, Ethan Chapman led-off the inning with a triple and later scored on a Rubi Silva base-hit, extending their lead to two runs.

The Explorers tied it with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the fifth. X's shortstop Nate Samson smashed a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

The score would stay tied through nine innings of play, forcing extra innings with the score tied at 2-2 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

In the top of the twelfth, Canaries took the 3-2 lead. Ethan Chapman led-off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored off an RBI single by Blake Schmit to take the extra inning lead.

Sioux City would go on to fall to the Canaries with a 3-2 score in twelve innings at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Canaries starter Stephen Bougher (1-5) finished with a no decision, going eight solid innings with only two runs allowed. Josh Ferrel (2-1) received the victory, pitching 3.1 scoreless innings. Sioux Falls closer Madison Boer (s-6) got the save for Sioux Falls.

Sioux City starter Bryan Escanio (3-3) finished with a no decision, allowing two runs in 4.2 innings. Hobbs Johnson was charged with the loss for Sioux City, giving up the winning run in the twelfth inning.
