Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
The GarySouthShore RailCats announced on Tuesday afternoon the activation of right-handed pitcher Carlos Misell from the inactive list to the team's 23-man active roster and placed right-hander reliever Christian Herstine on the inactive list with reoccurring right shoulder issues.
Misell went 2-8 with six saves and a 5.82 ERA in 36 games (eight starts) for the Texas Airhogs in 2016. A native of Valencia, VZ, Misell signed with the Seattle Mariners in 2013 and began his professional baseball career with the AZL Mariners that summer. Misell spent three seasons in the Mariners organization, reaching as high as Hi-A in 2015.
Herstine appeared in three games out of the bullpen for Gary before being placed on the inactive list. The right-hander finished without a record and a 9.00 ERA. Herstine's best outing came in his season debut on May 31 vs. Kansas City. The right-hander struck out one in a perfect inning of relief. In 2016, Herstine went 1-0 with 10 strikeouts and a 1.04 ERA in five relief appearances (8.2 innings) with the RailCats before having his contract purchased by the New York Yankees on July 7, 2016. Herstine made his professional debut with the RailCats on June 22, striking out two batters in two scoreless innings of relief.
The RailCats resume their seven-game homestand and four-game series tonight against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at 7:10 p.m. Right-hander Tyler Harris (0-1, 6.75) squares up against RedHawks southpaw Michael O'Neal (2-1, 1.42).
