LAST TIME OUT: Massimo Lamacchia scored late in the third period to give Roanoke the lead but Knoxville answered with three goals in the final 2:22 and the Ice Bears defeated the Rail Yard Dawgs, 6-4, Thursday night at the Berglund Center. Lamacchia tallied a goal and two assists, David Gandara scored twice and Tim Boyle picked up two assists. The loss snapped a four-game point streak for Roanoke.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Brandon Anderson will get the starting nod for the Dawgs, his fifth appearance of the season. Anderson is 2-2-0 with a 3.25 GAA and an .894 SV% in his prior four games, including a 40 save performance during a 3-2 win in Evansville on 10/28. He last appeared on Friday against Fayetteville and stopped 30 of 32 shots in a 4-2 Roanoke win.

MILESTONE MARKER: David Gandara buried a rebound in the second period on Thursday, his first goal as a professional. Gandara spent three game with Louisiana (SPHL) in 2015-16 and tallied one assist after concluding a four-year career at American International College (NCAA DI), during which he scored 9 goals over 106 games. The floodgates opened for Gandara on Thursday, who picked up a second goal in the period for Roanoke's fourth multi-goal game of the year.

SECOND IS THE BEST: The Dawgs scored three times in the second period during Thursday's loss to Knoxville and have now notched 13 of their 22 goals this season during the second period. Roanoke is out-scoring its opponents, 13-7, during the middle stanza while tonight's opponent Evansville has been out-scored, 18-4, in the second.

THE NEW GUYS: Roanoke and Evansville are the two franchises new to the SPHL for 2016-2017. Both cities formerly were the home of ECHL hockey as Evansville had the IceMen from 2010-16 and Roanoke was the home of the Express from 1993-2004.

SLOW OFF THE GROUND: The Thunderbolts are the only team in the SPHL not to win a game in 2016-17, having gone 0-6-2 thus far.

THIRD PERIOD BLUES: The Rail Yard Dawgs were out-shot, 17-4, during the third period on Thursday and have now been out-shot, 34-5, during the third periods of their previous two games. Knoxville netted five goals, one empty netter, during the third on Thursday, the most goals that Roanoke has allowed in a single period this season.

PENALTY ASSASSINS: Roanoke was 8-for-8 on the penalty kill on Thursday and has now successfully stopped 20 of the last 21 power plays it has faced.

WE'VE DONE THIS BEFORE: The Rail Yard Dawgs picked up their first two wins in franchise history against Evansville on 10/28-29. Tyler Gjurich recorded five points (3 G, 2 A) over the two games to pace the Dawgs.

UP NEXT: Roanoke returns to action on Thursday at 7:05 PM at home against the Thunderbolts. Including Fridays game, the Dawgs will play their next three against Evansville.
